I am assuming this is the Canadian equivalent of a vet nurse but i wasn't sure whether we could practice over there with our qualification

RE: Can you work as a vet nurse in Canada and America?

Vet Tech is pretty equivalent to nurse. Some places in Canada call them animal health technicians(or technologists) I think. When I looked into moving to Canada, I contacted the provincial board to see how to go about it- I would have had to pay to have my credentials assessed, then if that was ok, I'd have to do a practical exam and a written exam if I recall correctly. When I looked into the US, the state board I contacted pretty much said they wouldn't do it, but I imagine that varies by state as they all have different regulations and requirements. My advice is to contact the registering organisation wherever you plan to move to.

I'd make sure you can get a visa before spending any money to get credentials assessed though!

RE: Can you work as a vet nurse in Canada and America?

If you search the forum I think there are some previous threads which might hold the answer :)

RE: Can you work as a vet nurse in Canada and America?

I know for Canada you have to contact the governing body of Vet Techs for the Province you wish to go to and send them all the stuff relating to your course along with a fee. They'll then see if they think you're allowed to work as a Vet Tech or if you have to retrain.

I think America have both Vet Nurses and Vet Techs but Vet Techs are higher up (I may be wrong), not sure about working there though, I've only ever looked into Canada.
