So why really do dogs eat grass?
All of my dogs eat grass all the time and are never sick! they eat a high quality food (Burns) so I am sure they are not lacking anything in their diet, think they just like the taste (they do it much more in Spring when the new, sweet shoots are coming up!) or out of habit!

Clients ask at work how to stop their dogs from eating grass & I always advise that if they are fit and healthy and it is causing no problems, not to worry! My dogs are all fine!!

Re: Grass eating

its a classic baby

Re: Grass eating

I have never even heard of it...... will have to have a proper nosey at the alcohol section next time I shop, is it a nice smooth gin?

Re: Grass eating
Steph B- how does anyone know so much about chlorophyll!!!

Re the grass eating in dogs. although dogs are classed as carnivores, they are pretty well omnivorous. This has in fact been put forward as a reason for man and dogs first associations and can still be seen in remote parts of the world today. ie- dogs can (and do) eat anything and convert it to protein (dog flesh) which people can then eat. Village dogs often scavenge human refuse.

So I think grass eating is just related to a dogs naturally varied diet.
I studied marine biology and botany for my extra sciences in high school! hehe but honestly i'm just a really good researcher so when I don't know something I look it up! The dogs vomiting from chlorophyll just seemed strange to me so I looked it up. Grass chemically would release a lot of gas(O2) when breaking down, so it's possible that when it enters the stomach if the stomach is still full from other feedings that it might just over fill with air? This is just a guess though I do not know this for certain. Just using common sense at this point.
