She has got some sight back luckily. I am dosing her myself daily but she is not for the faint hearted as quickly turns into a raging tiger :) I am away soon for couple

RE: Dosing renal cat with tablets

NickyC Thanks for mentioning that Summit produce amlodipine in smaller tab sizes!! Wish I knew this before. Have been quartering 5mgs and a lot of it just ends up in powder all over the worktop

I second squeezy primula for fragile tabs likely to shatter, but for preds I use a squished segment of a catstick (meaty thing reconstituted into the shape of a thin cylindrical treat, which you can tear a piece off and reshape around a small tablet). My local supermarket makes their own branded version.

If you are splitting the larger 5mg size tablets then don't forget you lose the coating, which then makes them taste very bitter, and more likely to be spat out.. You could also try butter or marmite, but these are more messy then pate!

RE: Dosing renal cat with tablets

My lad can be a monkey and is currently on pred. Best things for us (and I know its not ideal things but the meds are important) is dairlea cheese triangle as sticks to tablet (or primala squeezy cheese), salmon pate or plain chicken firdge raiders (as these can be cut, create a tiny slot, insert tablet and quidge chicken around it, good favour and moist and atcually looks for the packet as only has them as a tablet treat: )

RE: Dosing renal cat with tablets

one of mine used to take anything in either fish paste or potted beef. Just a thought but isn't there an amlodapine patch for cats? I am sure I read something about it somewhere. Just off to look now

ok found something, wasn't exactly what i was looking for but does mention it

It's made by boehringer and you administer it the same way as metacam ie draw it up in a syringe according to weight and mix it with food. Much easier to use as it's liquid and flavoured. I think it has a much better effect on BP than fortekor does when used with amlodipine. I run renal clinics at my practice and a lot of clients find this much easier to give.
