Npl time is dependant on student - they should just get on and find their own cases but seem need pushing every step of the way. You also need to allow time for npl planning with your student too so you both have the same aims and targets. I wont lie it is time consuming so make sure your employer understands this otherwise you will end up doing stuff in your own time.

RE: clinical coaching

Your training provider can provide help and advice on this. Yes, the 3 hours a week is the absolute minimum; however you do have the option to delegate certain tasks. Say for instance one of your colleagues is an expert IV placer; you can have the student practice with the colleague, and then you can observe the final results and if the IV is placed to your satisfaction then you sign the student as competent. Other varieties are possible, it's well worth sitting down with your college/training provider for advice on how to make the best use of your time. (Obviously the answers will depend very much on your individual circumstances, hence why I can't be more specific here.)

RE: clinical coaching

Not a clinical coach but a student! My CC is my vet so she spends a lot of time with me on cases which makes my life easier. I find my own cases and use them and take everything to her but some students make their CC's work much harder if they are lazy!

I think our college recommends at least 3 hours spent together over the week so as long as your part time hours allow this with the student should be OK and these can spent in discussion or practical so don't necessarily drag you back into the clinical capacity. Although all skills need to be demonstrated to your student and they demonstrate it back so when it comes to some modules this can be time consuming if you have a lot to do managerially speaking. Then to sign off you should witness your student complete the skill they are claiming competency for.

Hope a CC can give you more info but from a student's point of view the more available my CC is to help with my NPL and discuss my problems the easier it has been for me x
