Have a bit of dilemma, my boss is allergic to scrubs containing chlorhexidine so currently uses iodine to scrub. Does anyone use any alternatives? Also could anyone who uses the alcohol based rub let me know how they get on with it and costs etc

RE: Alternative surgical hand scrubs?

Hi vicky, Ive got the phone number for the vet store if you want it? we buy al;l our consumables and instruments aswell as cleaning stuff with them and ive saved the practice loads of wonga = pay rise !!

RE: Alternative surgical hand scrubs?

Thanks for all your replies! They are using it in the veterinary unis now as well as human hospitals

RE: Alternative surgical hand scrubs?

sterilium too here, its quite strog smelling though lol

RE: Alternative surgical hand scrubs?

Definitely change from using iodine. WHO have done studies which have shown that levels of micro-organisms are actually higher post-surgery than before scrubbing which I found quite shocking. We recently swapped onto sterillium as well. Im definitely going to have a peek the vet store as we currently use ims. Our vets like it though we did get visit from the company to show them how to use it properly. We also have baktolin their handwash which you can use pre sterilium if soiled hands. Our boss is happy with it cost wise as it saves on water when using scrubs. We bulk buy from nanufacturer but think other places stock it now too.
