If ECC is the route you want to go down but are willing to wait a little while. Vets Now are currently developing a "nursing Edge" program, like the cutting edge program they do for vets. Simply put, the vet one is a paid 10 week course including practical days and "placements" in clinics and the hospitals then you are employed in one of the clinics. Then once your with the company you get a discount on the Vets Now VN Cert ECC so it would be covered by your cpd allowance.

Its still in the pipeline but i don't think it'll be long before it starts getting advertised. I asked about it the other day, and was told it was aimed primarily at nurses who have qualified in the last few years or have only worked in first opinion practice, i don't know if you fit into one of these categories.

I currently work for vets now and have found it has re ignited a desire for me to do further study and specialise in this area. I know the 2 courses are far apart cost wise but I really like the idea of attending lectures and especially the practical session as for me, it is different knowing the theory of how to do something and having actually performed the task.

I do wonder if one is a more recognised certificate than the other? For instance, do the post nominals of one get looked on higher than the other by practices. When I compared the two syllabuses they did seem to cover much the same topics.

If anyone could answer my questions I am sure it would help the OP too.

OP, it may be worth moving this thread to life in practice or asking the same thing there as it seems a more popular topic board

RE: Improve international Ncert E&CC

Thanks for the reply Carly!

It's just nice to hear that it is worth the money! I had looked at the vets now course but was not blown away with the idea of doing such an in depth subject online.

I did this course this year and cannot rate it highly enough. Paul and Louise have fantastic knowledge and were able to explain things in a way that many could understand. I was working in a first opinion and referral practice at the time of doing the course and was able to take my new knowledge back to the practice and utilise it. The practical day at the end of the course was also invaluable.

It is expensive but when you are there and you consider the expertise and the facilities that the course is provided in you will realise that it is worth every penny.

If you're unsure there is the vets now emergency and critical care course but this is online and you don't get the benefit of the practical day at the end. It may be worth considering or looking at for a comparison though. I hope this helps
