I was wondering what are peoples thoughts about life after being a VN. What is the natural progression of a role of a VN after practice? Do people think it is a natural progression to practice management or becoming a rep or other roles within

RE: Life after Nursing!

Hi,

I work with other Rvns, nursing assistants and some vets. We all have different reasons for working there. The majority is better hours/pay. We are guaranteed most holidays off and leave on time. There is an option to be paid for overtime or take in lieu. No late shifts or long weekends.

I did it because I was a 110% career woman and loved my job in the vet world, but couldn't be that committed with my boys. As we all know you often have to stay on due to an emergency, yet I couldn't. It wouldn't of been fair to the patient, my fellow colleagues or my child care. I'm not complaining as having children was our choice. I will return to practice once my boys are a bit older. I miss it too much

Thanks for the suggestion. Presumably you had to do additional qualifications? Did you have experience in this field initially? Appreciate your advice.

My job is a lecturer in animal management and veterinary nursing. I absolutely love my job and would not change it for the world. Just a thought for you, it takes a certain something I'm not sure what its not for everybody but I would not do anything else now. Hope this helps. I was a vet nurse for 9 years and still do the odd bits of locum work when I get chance.
