it would be worth to add more Qualifications. My view on this is that some people will have other "animal industry related degree qualifications", including that of myself. Maybe have a box for self filling out, Other Qualifications _________________ which then can just appear under main header next to RVN, SVN, etc

My reasoning was just that I have noticed so many members have already chosen to display their qualification letters after their name. So it seemed like something a lot of people want to do. Problem is that if you add letters in the name field of your vetnurse registration, it screws up the search function. So I just thought it would work better if I categorised members according to qualification / route.

It wasn't a big deal. Just an idea. Obviously one which the majority so far think is a rubbish one! That's fine, I'm not precious about my ideas. Can stay as it is

Sal, again slightly off topic... I totally agree and find the tone of some of the articles re. this really irritating and condescending.

I too don't see the need to list every single qualification, I don' t see what it adds to the site?

OK - well the idea certainly wasn't intended to be divisive (on the contrary to help people see what they have in common!), but quite happy to leave things as they are.

'QVN will be abolished and replaced entirely by RVN'

and I didnt think anybody had noticed? This is absolutely crap for the listed nurses among us who have made a conscious decision not to be RVNs - so basically we have been told join our gang or else - we aren't interested in why you dont want to join us, we aren't interested in dealing with any of your concerns.

But back to the real subject of the thread - I am sorry big A but why complicate what we already have by adding even more categories? - if you are wanting to drive a wedge within the nurses- yep , what you are proposing will do a pretty good job.

I would like this as a post nominal VPON (Very Pissed Off Nurse)

I think that support comes from all aspects of veterinary life and that everyone has something to offer in regards to learning more and offering advice. Therefore I don't see the need to have every qual listed. If people have the option to have their qualifications as a signature at the bottom of anything they post, then the need to have this mentioned elsewhere isn't really required.

Just my opinion :-)

Personally I don't really care how people obtained their RVN qualification, if you go down the level 3 diploma, degree route etc why not go the whole hog and include ALL the ways we have qualified over the years "little green book" and NVQ level 3, it doesn't make any of us a better nurse than the other and I find that trying to distinguish like that could actually cause friction between the different qualification routes. If people want to let people know how they qualified they could always put it in their signature.

The DipAVN is a completely separate qualification so I appreciate that being extra.

As an aside, the DipAVN's who have not already completed the degree can top up to it following completion of the DipAVN and therefore don't gain the RVN via the degree route as they are already there if you get what I mean

Hi fairy

I'm interested to know why you think it wouldn't be better to add a little more about qualification type.

I've noticed that a lot of people already do it by adding letters after their name - problem is that this confuses the hell out of the 'find colleagues' search tool on the website (if Jane Smith enters her name as Jane Smith MBVNA DipAVN, she won't be found unless someone types in that exact combination of letters).

Incidentally, I've decided that any changes to membership category might as well wait until the New Year, when QVN will be abolished and replaced entirely by RVN.
