have you applied to get on a veterinary nursing course at college? If not, you should look into it asap, as places get snapped up fast. You can then still look for a placement as you are but least you will have a college place waiting!

i attended an interview last month, for course starting sept next year. So they are quite ahead of themselves.

good luck. I am in the same boat as you.

We are in West Sussex wel b looking for a trainee next spring

RE: What is the secret to getting a foot in the door?

The college I trained at (The college of animal welfare) does a full time veterinary nursing course and they find you a practice to train in. You might have to travel though and you won't get paid but its a way of getting your RVN status. This is how I started, then after a year in practice and at college I started applying for paid student jobs.

Always another option :)

RE: What is the secret to getting a foot in the door?

I think the best thing you can do is volunteer your time with an animal charity to start, then maybe moving to get a Saturday job at a local clinic - even just cleaning - and as the staff get to know you, I'm sure they're allow you to get a bit more involved.

Some of the best things I learnt was from standing in consults and listening to the vet and asking questions once the client had left :) I'd then see if you can apply to a local college to get onto the full-time or block release veterinary nursing course?

Hope this helps!
