&lt;p&gt;In human nursing there are good articles on compassion fatigue. Worth a read. I had almost become numb to euthanasia having assisted with it day in and day out but seeing my mom so distraught really put things into focus for me. In the future I will always think of my moms grief and not see euthanasia as a &amp;#39;routine&amp;#39; part of my work.
