If I don't get this one (although I'm praying that I will) then I'll still keep trying.. somewhere will want me lol! Anyway, I was wondering what

Re: Study/Information Books?

I carry my jones' everywhere its really useful, and has everything you will need. The complete textbook for VN by V aspinall is also a good one. I would also recommened a good physiology book, the CAW one by Louise tartaglia is very good, have used it for my diploma studies, and found it invaluable.

I too am a lover of books I get really excited when I get a new one. (sad I know!!)

Re: Study/Information Books?

The How to Get Through NVQ2/3 are brilliant to revise from, everything is in point form so really easy to simplify for revision.

The BSAVA Veterinary Nursing manual (the old Jones' one) is the book that will get you through your entire nursing career from student to qualified. There are lots of other books that are useful such as anaesthesia/practical nursing techniques etc, but for now the BSAVA one is invaluable.

Re: Study/Information Books?

I found 'How to get through NVQ 2 for veterinary nurses' (and nvq 3) really helpful. And they're only about £20 each. They cover each section fairly bascially but in a simple and easy to understand manner, and then I went off and read up in more detail in different books. For my exams they're what I mostly used to revise as they include everything you need to know for the exams

Re: Study/Information Books?

I have loads from my HND and from just adding to my collection afterwards. They're all sitting waiting for the day I get my SVN position (three years waiting now!)

I bought a lot on ebay - and now the ruling on cheap postage is in force it does make some suitable. For instance one of the "bibles" Veterinary Nursing - used to be Jones V N years ago - has a two part version then 2nd and 3rd edition single books. I had the two part through my Animal Nursing module and it was excellent. I bought the single 2nd edition (just to see what differences there are especially in regulations and newer equipment), and it cost me only £10 (including the postage) and it's normally double that or more.
I love the Nursing and Advanced nursing ones by the BVNA - you can buy them a bit cheaper new if you become a member.
I also have a surgical instuments book so I can identify which forceps etc are which.
I also did my HND using Tortora Anatomy and Phsiology - human I know but brilliant for all those medical bits and bobs.

Also Zoology by Dorrit
Also lots of Animal Nutiriton books (a couple of which I want to sell)
Also recommended by people on here was Veterinary Anaesthesia by Elizabeth Walsh - bought it and it is good, plus I have another V A book now.

I am a collector / hoarder of books, and always ask family to buy them for me as birthday/xmas presents.

The one missing from my bookshelf now is the portfolio one which shoudl I get a place I will buy to give me a head start (although I guess the TP's will have a copy ?).
They may also have several other books, and one good question I ask at interview (might not be good though as I haven't yet got a job from the threeinterviews I've managed to get in the last 3 years!! ) is what books do they have/recommend.

Good luck, and I really hope you get the job. If you don't can I have it ????

Bit expensive but well worth it, a thorough idea of almost everything you need!
