Stress - OK I understand we don't know stress levels in cats but nothing unusual occurred

Re: blocked bladders!

I think stress due to fireworks isn't a bad thought. We always tend to get batches of blocked bladders.

Re: blocked bladders!

but were there any crystals or casts immediately after unblocking?Did you discover what the plug was made up of ? was it crystaline or was it cast/blood?

the reason I asked was I can remember 2 cats form the same household ( both indoor cats) blocking within days of each other when I worked at a previous practice - and they both did this more than once with the same cat blocking first. My boss at the time came up with this theory - the first cat was on antibiotics for a recurrent cystitis, that the second cat was noticing something amiss in the first cats urine and was was 'hanging on' till he was desperate rather than use the litter tray after the first cat had been in there and as a result he eventually blocked too.

Both of these cats did have crystals tho from the initial cysto sample- pre unblocking (we always did cysto before unblocking - I know some people don't but we did - to relieve pressure and so we could start fluids straight away)

My own cat Oscar used to block at the drop of a hat - special food or not. More often than not when he blocked we didnt find crystals but we did find a lot of casts. His pH was usually around 6-7. I did find with him that Iams or Go cat was an absolute no no.

Any changes to the water bowl that might have made both cats reluctant to drink? Do you use a fountain and the filter needs changing? I know how picky some of these cats can be - I have one myself that will only drink from a dripping tap

Re: blocked bladders!

Fireworks causing stress?

Re: blocked bladders!

No casts. Boots had blood but this was only after he was taken back post unblocking as he got dehydrated (1st cat to get blocked) and was just straining without passing urine (And therefore made it so sore he passed blood). No crystals in either urine 3 days post unblocking.(And not fed on urine diet by us!)

pH was normal (No exactly sure of numbers but was told normal).

Re: blocked bladders!

were there many casts in the urine? blood clots? whats the pH - was it similar for both cats?
