I think you need to be registered to do shedule 3 and they do alot at PDSA so that may be true STVN!

I just wondered if soemone applied and said "I don't pay the fees" which many people don't then how do you check?? Do you just employ them and assume they are qualified?

I am sure the PDSA employ Registered nurses only, although I am sure unless you were unwilling to go on the register it would not be a probllem or a hurdle.

It's an interesting point. Are there any employers only hiring registered nurses, over qualified but not listed?

I think CVS perhaps... 'course I could be talking out of my bottom....

Im qualified, but not registered as i trained overseas and it is cost prohibative at the moment. I am working as a locum through an agency...and employers always ask to see my certificate. I assumed they all would.

You can check online, but many qualified nurses don't keep up to date with their registration, so there is no easy way to check.

I am currently a locum and include my registration number on my CV, but ahve no idea if anyone has ever checked it and no-one has asked for my card! However I am doing all my work via word of mouth with no agency so that may be why!

I would like a photo id card, as it would be easy to use someone elses name/number wouldn't it? My card seems to ake ages to arrive each year and I wonder if it has gone walk about for id (nursing or otherwise) purposes!

Seems a bit silly that employers arn't checking this fundamental aspect!

I put my VN number on my C.V also just to prove that I have one and then its up to them if they check or not.

I cant believe people lie about thier qualification.....maybe i'm being naive but I presumed all employers checked with the RCVS that potential nurses/vets were qualified.......i'm shocked they dont.

Wow this is shocking. I am doing my first year EVN course and i would NEVER lie about my qualifications - or lack thereof. In fact i am looking for some work experience now and even with this i am upfront saying that this is a career change etc etc, and that i have not yet actually worked in a vet clinic and so on. Gosh, how can people go looking for a job and lie about their qualifications? More so, how can they apply for a job without showing full documentation on who they are / what they have done / what qualifications etc. This is just beyond me. Especially in a medical professions, veterinary or otherwise, there are lives at stake with this...

I am well and truly gob smacked over reading this now :/

In our case, yes the police were called and the rcvs are also involved.
It is still ongoing which is why I posted this up, want pratices to be extra careful when employing nurses so they dont get caught up in this.

It also amazes me how many practices have had suspicions about nurses but just pushed them out the door andf brushed them under the carpet. With self regulation coming up we have to stop letting this happen.

VNs applying for jobs at our practices have their VN number checked online, and if called in for an interview, show their registration card. Worrying to think there are some so called nurses out there who try and fob off potential employers.

i think i have been told about this. i heared there was 2 nurses doing it and that things went wrong to the oint that police could or were called in.

as somone that has locumed i expect people to ask for my number to check and i dont know how people dare to say thay ar a VN when they are only 1st yr.
