I think it took 9 months for me to get my badge after I passed! and then it was broken! haha

Hi everyone,

I've only just come across your questions. If you have any specific problems then please email me - I will do my best to help. I have put the handbook on the course website - in the student area. Remember that there are 5 pages of support material in the student area - it you have forgotten the password please email me. I can however say that since we took over the course in 2011 I have done my best to make the questions and photographs as clear as possible! If there any problems on the day, then you should let me know and I will do my best to sort them. I do my best to be perfect, but sometimes it doesn't work

Hi I didn't know if the species question required the Latin name or not so I wrote both just in case. I requested a copy of the exam afterwards to see what I'd got correct but it's not allowed for some reason. With regard to feeding tubes it was very obvious which size you'd use for the birds they asked about so don't be worrying

When you say different size crop tubes, I am unaware that there are specific sizes, we just use small for budgies, a little larger for parrots etc?. Where do I find the info on sizes for specific species, many thanks for your help.

When you say you needed to identify a species from the photo - as simply as 'roe deer' - not the order (Ungulata) or family (Cervidae) ?? All this Latin is too much for my little brain at the minute!! Lol

Useful info thanks. What about heart rates/temp ranges/dental formulas? Don't think I'm gonna try as suspect it will be wasted time as so similar, but different i'll get confused.

Hi I sat this exam in Edinburgh this year, and the practical is the same as everyone has mentioned. I found this the easy part. The exam question papers were harder for me. You can't remember it all. I don't know of anyone who hasn't passed this exam. The only thing I would say is not to spend to much time on the exam papers that they have on line as myself and the other girls who sat the exam found these to be easier than the exam we took. I don't want to scare you, just to let you know not to go over these too much.

Hi I did my exam last year and you definitely do not need to learn does rates. The practical exams were a mixture of photographs and equipment with one or 2 questions about each. Some of the photos were not of a great quality but if you struggle then simply ask the exam invigilator and remember everyone is in the same boat. I remember we had different sized crop feeding tubes and had to say which we would use for a number of different species, a picture of an animal where we had to name the species and a packet of guinea pig food. If you need any advice then contact Mary,she was great when I was doing my course. I passed first time so it can't be all that bad! Hope this helps X

I wouldn't be worrying about dose rates etc only rates I gonna try and remember is the daily fluid intakes, that's the height of it. I have another 2 folders to study and make notes on yet I completed the Avian, and hoping this wkend will finish the wildlife ones. That's how I am doing it and hopefully it will work for me :)

Thanks I had a look there on the website but my computer wouldn't open the papers but did the sample questions and I didn't fair too bad :)

Please don't quote me on this, but I think I emailed Mary about dose rates and was told we DIDN'T need to learn them - Im certainly not going to try, at the end of the day it isn't our job.

I'm sitting this too & am finding it really difficult to remember all the statistical data. I too feel there is way too much information for nurses & perhaps not enough 'nursing'?? Do we also need to remember dose rates????? Arghhhhhhh!!

As I understand from the exam info email, it's the written papers, separated into 2 papers and then the practicals. Been looking at the sample questions online, the written ones are useful, but the practical one only gives 5 questions!

Thanks all for the info. I am so nervous it aint funny :/ I am trying to get through all my folders an have only completed 1 and 1.5 so far so I need to keep going. Yes I am sitting my exam in Nov in London.

There is no way we can remember everything but if we have a sort of idea I am sure we can guess lol

Is it multiple choice and then the practicals? I am hoping the practical's will be mainly common sense things

I sat this about 4 years or so ago...

Not a great deal of detail is required, it really is one or two word answers and in a lot of cases its really not clear on the question anyway - I had to make a complaint about the quality of the questions ..it was shocking, but i hope they have since fixed it!

Don't panic, you'll be fine! :) Its things like identifying equipment, choosing the right crop tube for a certain species, choosing a diet etc ..

Hi, I'm not sure if the practical exam is still the same because I completed it a few years ago. it wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be, you went round and each station had a photo or an object, you then had to answer a few questions, some which were one word answers and some that you had to write a sentence. So for example one station would have a picture of a guinea pig with a clipped patch of fur over its hip/femur, they would then ask 1. What route of fluid therapy is the guinea pig prepared for. 2. What is the rate of fluid therapy for a guinea pig. 3. How would you prep the patient and administer fluids via this route

Hope that helps, but don't rely on my info because as I said been a few years since I sat it!
