Have you thought about principal nurse postion in vets now. Yiu still get to nurse but it's emergency work so usually quite good shifts and you also run the clinics too. Also quite good time off and not the every day general practice? They offer really good cpd too.

I was all set to leave clinical practice 3 years ago, then fell into locum work as a stop-gap measure until I figured out what I wanted to do, and i haven't looked back since, I love it. It's definitely challenging as you have to adapt quickly to different types of practice, and that can sometimes mean feeling a bit out of your comfort zone, especially when you're thrown in the deep end at a busy practice you've never worked at before. But you get a taster for different types of practice, explore different parts of the country if you want to, make new friends all over the place, learn different ways of doing things, and are essentially your own boss. I've never had a problem finding work (I usually have more offers of work than I can take on) and I've been able to do several voluntary trips abroad as well as holidays and a stint working in Sweden as well. It's not for everybody, but I highly recommend at least giving it a go for a few months!
