Don't forget waterproof bandage cover.. Didn't realise I had left out of my first aid kit until my dog cut her foot open.. I had everthing to clean, dry and dress it, but nothing to keep the bandage dry and it was pouring down! Would also add in a sneaky tube of Fuciderm..

Re: First aid kit for a dog

A tick treatment that repells! We have so many tourists that come up here on holiday and their dogs get covered in ticks (they usually come in panicking because the dog has a lump - usually a tick!) and most of the time the pet has been treated with Frontline or similar so the ticks still latch on. And definately a tick hook!

Re: First aid kit for a dog

Agreed, ticks, ticks, ticks, ticks, ticks are a problem up there.

Re: First aid kit for a dog

Unfortunately it's not me who is going but my parents, so I'm making sure they are prepared.
Thank you Michelle for your answer...there are things in there I've not even thought of.

Re: First aid kit for a dog

Where and how far are you walking?

My OH and I done the west highland way with the dog the other year.... She lost a lot of skin on her pads. She absolutely loved it however, and we struggled to stop her from playing during breaks ect (Crazy springer)

Tick hook is a must, (along with decent tick preventative treatment) we found them daily on her every where from her legs, vulva and ears!!

I carried one of each bandaging layers, cotton wool, bit of hibi, disposable gloves, little pot of honey, tweezers, scissors, little tournique, antiseptic wipes, micropore, list of vet numbers of various locations along the length of the walk, small microfiber towel, and a decent swiss army knife or similar (at least wire cutters as very handy if they get caught up in barbed wire ect)

We made sure we had good water purification tablets so we could top up water as we ran out - carried 5 ltr of water at a time, we also carried a lot of extra food for her.

Hope this helps.
