I studied at CAW Leeds and qualified in 2011. I would absolutely give a massive huge thumbs up to the training and support given there. As both Mark and Raceila say, Sharon is THE best and is particularly great with OSCE guidance/instruction. I know she whipped me into such great shape I passed them first time! Obviously any course is only as good as the work you put in yourself to complement the fab teaching but I can say that if you follow their programme of work you will succeed. Additionally, if you have a 'blip' at anytime either at college or at work (we all do) then they are very supportive.

RVN status is your next 'badge of honour' yes?!

Good luck and keep us all posted with your successes!!!

Re: The College of Animal Welfare reviews?

Hi Laura! I work at CAW Huntingdon and I second Racella's comments about Sharon, she's great. :) Definitely book on to one of the open days to get more information about the course. We do not let students on without a placement, full stop. This is simply because the practical part of the course is critical and if you still can't get a practical placement at the end of the theory part of the course, you may have to start the course all over again, which is simply not a great thing to happen. Find out from Leeds (or our admin centre in Huntingdon) about the requirements for a training practice; it may be that your practice could easily be certified and trained. If you only take CAW students, your practice may not have to pay TP fees, so that's a bonus for your practice as well.

Good luck!

Best wishes,
Mark

Re: The College of Animal Welfare reviews?

Hi Laura

I went to caw Leeds and qualified 2 years ago. It's was great! The head on centre, Sharon, is amazing, she's so supportive and helpful not only with regard to the course but also great as someone to talk to about personal issues too.

You would need to do a certain amount of hours in a training practice in order to qualify as a nurse as these practices have been assessed so that they have the facilities and caseload in order to allow you to gain the appropriate experience you require. If you are working part time then I'm not sure how long it would take you to qualify as this would mean you'd be able to do less hours in a TP as a result.

I'd suggest you contact the college and I'm sure they will send you some information.

They are all lovely there and made me the nurse I am today :)
