Client today had obtained new dog chipped by one of their chips. Had never heard of them - if she didnt have original barcode wouldnt have been able to locate dogs details as no other databases link to it. Thinking about it we also have a couple of dogs with multiple chips - one of them with a passport has a failed virbac chip plus its replacement. Another is a dog that was chipped but chip not registered and was then chipped again (original chip had migrated and wasnt picked up on) and is now being exported to another country - no end of problems with it. Until recently it was possible for folks to buy a DIY microchip on amazon no idea what chip or database it was and there would have been no way for the DIY implanter to be able to check the chip number or check that the animal wasnt already chipped - and call me picky but I dont like the idea of somebody with no idea sticking a microchip needle in an animals neck somehow
