We are a very busy practice but do not do our own out of hours, well that's how it's supposed to be but! We have recently taken on another newly qualified and she would have been on the same rate if she stayed at her training practice. I believe PDSA and RSPCA pay better than private practice.

Re: New Qualified... wage advice

I am not qualified yet, but I know some friends who are getting £17,000 newly qualified.
First Opion practice relevant (includes weekend work similar to your friend): My first (full-time 40hpw) basic wage was £15000 thereabouts £7.20ish per hr) - this was 1/2011. Received add-on payments for working OOH.

I work in the NE.

Once I was qualified with 6-8 months experience I then got another job at £19000 (£9.00ish per hr)pa for similar hours/add ons.

I can say that I am now averaging significantly more as I am locuming. For me, definitely the way to go once you have experience under your belt, at least for paying my mortgage that is...am averaging £14-£15 per hr.

I do know of another nurse at in NE area at a First Opinion practice who earns £16,650 pa (£8.00ish) per hour and qualified in 2011.

Hope this helps?
