Rusty had another series of really bad fits satrting at 1.15am sunday 21st June.

After dosing with diazepam both orally rectally and via iv and it having no effect to control consistant seizure activity, and administering iv phenobarbital, a very tough decision of euthanasia was taken by my family as a whole.

It has taken me until now to come to terms with the fact that we didn't give up on him too soon. It has been 3 months from the start of his fits. Sunday morning was terrible, he must of had over 30 seizures before the phenobarb gave him 2 hours of rest until when he awoke at 6am and started fitting again. He would of been 3 yrs old this september.

We as a family miss him lots, and he leaves behind his collie friend Rocky, who cannot understand why his friend has not returned.

RIP Rusty, sweet dreams we all miss you loads.

Re: canine epilepsy and my dog!

Glad things are going well, keeping my fingers crossed for you and Rusty x

Re: canine epilepsy and my dog!

Thanks guys, all hugs and messages greatly appreciated.

Rusty has had no more fits since then (touching a hugh piece of wood right now)

I am giving him his epeihen bid, but have decreased his diazepam to 1 5mg tab pm only (just before bed). His appetite has improved greatly (he always has been a finiky eater), but this may be due to the fact that he is no longer just eating RCW bx but we are now mixing a small amount of tinned food with it so that we can hide his meds.

Will keep all updated.

And I am keeping my fingers permanetly crossed.

Thanks for all well wishes.

Re: canine epilepsy and my dog!

I too hope things buck up for you soon x

Re: canine epilepsy and my dog!

[quote user="Bouncyfi"]
