Do you monitor all ops, routine ops or just "high risk" patients?
Also, can you say whether you work for a first opinion, hospital, referral hospital or university.
I want to speak to our CD about monitoring

Re: Info required :-)))

I work in 1st opinion
at the moment we only really use it on 'high risk' patients
but we're getting a few multiparameter machines!!
We use multi parameter monitors that include osscillometric NIBP for most procedures and we have a Doppler for cats and small dogs as this tends to be more reliable. Most practice have a Doppler around somewhere for use in consults so to save pennys this could be used at no extra cost! I monitor BP for all GAs every 5 mnis to observe for trends in results, single readings can be misleading. Use on routine patients will help with refining technique for the less stable patients. Also you may be surprised by how many 'routine' cases are hypotensive due to pre-meds/induction agents/high volatile agents. I work in 1st opinion/referral practice.

Re: Info required :-)))

We use nibp for every op however high risk get an arterial line so we can measure ibp.
