I am looking to do a further course. I have been an RVN for 5 years now and am finding myself needing to do something else. Can anyone suggest any good courses? Not really keen on the DipAVN but any suggestions welcome :)

scroll down to 'the legal status of veterinary acupuncture'. I have trained extensively in human acupuncture but would not be able to carry out acupuncture on animals as there are no vets in the practice that would be able to prescribe or supervise. This is essentially a preserve of veterinary surgeons trained in acupuncture. Hope that clarifies

Re: What do I do now????

I agree - I thought acupuncture could only legally be carried out by a vet who had trained in it.

Re: What do I do now????

Wow just goes to show how things need to me made clearer for nurses!
I'm not saying that you are wrong but I was genuinely under the impression that we could not so I would like to clarify this.

This is what the RCVS says in its supporting guidance:

19.12 The Veterinary Surgery (Exemptions) Order 1962 allows for the treatment of animals by physiotherapy, provided that the animal has first been seen by a veterinary surgeon who has diagnosed the condition and decided that it should be treated by physiotherapy under his/her direction.

19.13 'Physiotherapy' is interpreted as including all kinds of manipulative therapy. It therefore includes osteopathy and chiropractic but would not, for example, include acupuncture or aromatherapy.

It's not particularly helpful!
