being able to drive is important if the practice has a branch surgery and wants you to switch between them, or you have an on-call rota.
Good luck with the search - I've been looking for 3 years - and with the driving (best thing I ever did - well apart from joining this site of course!!)

Thank you for the information. The extra dates for the exams sounds good. Gives you peace of mind if you do fail.

I have only written to TP's that are close to me or that I can reach via bus, if noone gets back to me before I take my driving test and get a car then I shall be applying further afield.

Hi Karen,

Normally you would do as you have one written exam in 1st year, then a written and practical for 2nd year. The increased number of exam dates helps those who might have failed a part of their exam and rather than wait another six months for resits, can go ahead and redo in a quicker time.

Good luck with trying to find a SVN position. Keep on writing to practices in your area (or further afield if you can do) and hopefully you will get your place soon.

Written exams are now 3 times a year I think, and practicals 4x.

Hello,

I've just joined this site in the hope of getting help to become a Student Vet Nurse. I've sent off my CV's to several TP's and have had replies from some of them but all saying that they have no vacancies at the mo which is pretty annoying.

I went onto the RCVS website and got a list of the TP's in my area, but as you said there is no list of TP's who are actually taking people on.

I read that there were exams twice a year, is this not the case anymore?

At least they've partially updated it - it still only states exams are twice a year though.
Very useful and clear for people who want to know the qualifications or routes through the studying etc. WIll be a useful site, thanks.

Wish it had a section on how to persuade a TP to take you on...(apart from the obvious methods), or a link to somewhere that was a dynamic list of actual available placements rather than the TP list everyone has access to which just means they are a TP and not that they are acutally currently training anyone let alone whether they have places available.
