I think some people can look untidy in anything. Personally I don't mind scrubs or tunic if the wearer has made an effort to look tidy.

I bought a set of bottle green tunic/trousers when I started locum work because that is what my agency suggested so that I would look more professional. I found that most of the places that required me to wear theatre-only scrubs had a bunch of spares. So I would definitely go with the tunic option.

Now that I am settled in a permanent job.... I'm dying to buy the scrub top that says "I like big mutts and I cannot lie" from Vet Direct! But I doubt my boss will let me :- /

I have no problem with staff wearing scrubs all day but there needs to be a difference between clean theatre scrubs and all day scrubs.

I wouldnt want a nurse that has been doing clinics and kennels all day to then walk into one of my clean theatres so perhaps bottle green for normal day work and blue for theatre work.

I think that tunics should be worn in front of clients as it looks very smart and more professional than scrubs. I do think scrubs are a lot more comfortable to wear. In my practice sterilised scrubs are only worn during surgery.

We've just switched to the bottle green scrubs from vet direct. Much comfier and cooler for the summer months. I think they look rather smart plus you get lots of pockets!!

I think tunics and trousers look smarter than scrubs. In the equine clinic where I work, we only wear scrubs in theatre and they are banned in other areas except for old ones which are kept aside for wearing over clothes during dirty procedures such as sinus surgery or scoping horses which are bleeding (we find them comfier and easier to put on than overalls). Our usual uniform is black trousers and a navy polo shirt with practice logo on. It looks smart and is practical, although quite different from small animal nurses bottle green uniforms! Its nice that you guys have a universally recognisable uniform.

Practically I find scrubs more comfy but having said that if you are seeing clients and running clinics I think tunic looks smarter, I work in referrals so never see clients, I wear scrubs all day long!

I think it depends on the practice we wear scrubs in the summer and tunics in the winter I think if a locum turned up in either we wouldn't mind we have the mock wrap over scrubs and think they look smart enough when we first changed to scrubs a lot of clients commented on how much better they looked

we currently wear scrubs and I hate them....I would much rather wear tunic and trousers and feel they do look a lot smarter. I suppose it depends on the practice If I was in private practice I would much rather a locum showed up in tunic and trousers especially if there was client contact.

I often feel very untidy when I am going to see clients in my scrubs.

I've just started locuming and bought myself some scrubs, personally I don't think they look too untidy and I've never had comments from the bosses etc.

I got a great deal with the Dickies sales and got tops & bottoms £5 + VAT each :) much cheaper than the tunics! I got the wrap top which I thought looked a bit smarter and when you have your badges etc. you look the part.

With regards to colour, I always stay with bottle green - wouldn't go with anything else personally.

Have a look at cherokee unisex scrubs on vetdirect web site. they are really nice-kind of smarter( and more flattering) version of scrubs with black panels down the sides of tops. you will see what I mean but lots of practices are using them now and they come in lots of different colours
