&lt;p&gt; but&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;absolutely &amp;nbsp;- have always asked before using somebody as a reference. There have been cases where I haven&amp;#39;t used my current employer as the primary referee on a job application but whoever my referee is I have always asked their permission first without exception.&lt;/p&gt;
