My left arm is hypersensitive to touch and temperature, I can apply pressure with my hand as my arm is sore, I have constant pain in my arm, I have a numb hand (coming and going) and my arm/hand has pins

Re: Trapped Nerve?

[quote user="Jack"]

I don't want to start panicking you, but seriously I would get it checked out by your GP. I've just got back from a very long day at the hospital. My husband had surgery this morning to remove a disc from his neck which was compressing a nerve. His symptoms were constant pain, pins and needles and loss of use in his left arm, pain in the finger tips of his ring finger and little finger. Problem was at C6/C7, and has been going on for years, general wear and tear combined with a family history they think. I do hope this isn't whats going on with you. Let us know how you get on.

I think I would have been panicking about heart problems if I had those symptoms with my left arm!! Glad he's alright and sorted.

He said that he was having probs with his nerves in his arm/hand the Dr told him to get rid of the wireless mouse, he did and within a couple of weeks the problem was resolved. Made sense that l am still going to look when funds allow geting a trackerball (wireless) but will be careful.

Re: Trapped Nerve?

i've had a trapped nerve.... well... two actually.... feels or fuzzy, like pins and needles until you move to a certain position, then it hurst like hell!!!

Had one in my hip... dunno how i got it, had one in my shoulder... you may laugh at this,..... everyone else did, but i was on-call, and the phone rang, made me jump so much i forgot where i was.... not in my nice wide double bed at home, but the tiny single bed at work... flipped my legs over in shock and fell outta bed on my shoulder.... now that hurt!!!! i then had to treat the casualty with one arm, lol!!!

Re: Trapped Nerve?

My mum is a human nurse so shes my walking NHS direct, however when it comes to me i get told to get on with it, considering shes a fab nurse she thinks im a wuss, which i am haha

The olecranon itself was not painful at all, just all the tendons leading down the top of the arm itself.
Try even ringing NHS direct for advice maybe.

Re: Trapped Nerve?

oh and my other suggestion would be to see a chiropractor, they may have an earlier opening than your gp. they usually charge £25-40 for treatment. Its well worth it. I highly recommend McTimmony therapists.

Re: Trapped Nerve?

Thanks albatross.

No repetitive movement, not lifted heavy patients, I dont remember it being bad this morning, it felt a bit 'odd' but it was as the morning progressed at work it got worse.

Its so uncomfortable, even sitting here im resting it on a cushion and the cushion feels like sandpaper on my arm its weird its so sensitive

Re: Trapped Nerve?

All I can advise is to stretch as much as you can do comfortably. not just with the affected area but in other areas of your body. start on the floor and work your way up into a standing position. I can walk you through some stretches if you can't think of any, just PM me if you get stuck. :)

Re: Trapped Nerve?

My brother has something like that, its really sore, he gets cortizone injections about 4 or 5 times a year. You might make it worse if you try to use it as it might not be a trapped nerve. Look up net doctor and you might get more info x

Re: Trapped Nerve?

could be a nerve, could be tendons over-strained/inflamed. I had tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) but that affected the area in front of the elbow joint - and down to the writst was also weak. Turning the wrist or picking anything up sent needles of pain through the lower arm, and it felt like things were constantly tearing inside.
If it's more the elbow joint itself then it could be arthiritis, inflammation of the joint, or a nerve problem.

Have you been doing any repetitive work with the arm? Have you slept awkwardly on it without realising ? Did you pick up a heavy animal, twist it to catch something from falling, or even just unscrew something while turning it without realising ?

It's hard to know without diagnosis whether rest/heat/cold/strapping up/manipulatio/physio etc are the right or wrong things.
If you can't get to a doc before the weekend, why not ask one of the vets where you work ? I did this and she had exactly the same symptoms and told me mine was tennis elbow before the doc did - and gave better advice too....it should never replace a doctors visit but after all they are medically trained, and in the short term could prevent you doing the wrong thing with your arm and making it worse.
