My head nurse interview was more about what I felt the role entailed over and above being an RVN (I think its a given you are more than competent at this part). I also got asked about how I would develop the nursing team, how I would deal with difficulties in terms of staff and clinical issues and what changes I felt I could implement that would improve the current team. I also got asked some behavioural questions, eg give an example of what I had done in certain situations and what I may have done differently or better.

Good luck

Re: Interview for Head nurse

the last one I had for an internal vacancy there were no clinical questions asked ( and I am presuming that was because it was an internal vacancy and people already knew how I worked), questions mostly concentrated on

ability to communicate effectively with both vets and nurses, ie was I comfortable with being a 'hostage negotiator' (their exact words )

confidentiality,

effective delegation ( ie being able to delegate jobs to the people best suited to carry them out to a high standard) teamworking

how to maintain 'a happy ship',

how I would maintain discipline and deal with grievances prior to involving other members of staff or the next level of management

did I feel that I could act with authority when needed and be fair to each member of staff and did I think that other members of staff would be able to accept my position

hope that helps
