I was just wondering if anyone had literature for this as I'd be interested to read it.

Thanks for this. That is very interesting to know..I presumed there was evidence to support the original concentric methodology.

I will check with my colleagues but think would be very keen for a demonstration if you are in Scotland ever.

Thanks

The studies comparing prepping with friction vs. prepping concentrically were performed in humans. One study showed that prepping in a back and forth motion compared to spiral wiping the site gave a more than double log reduction of the bacterial count on the skin.

Also it is important to remember that there is no evidence to support spiral or concentric prepping. This is merely a paper theory and education establishments have historically made assumptions and taught this.

This is why (with the available evidence) we teach a friction based method of application.

Re: Scrubbing surgical sites

Hi, Is there any evidence based literature relating to the to and fro scrubbing technique in veterinary patients?

We had the guy who runs this company out to our practice and he did some demos and spent time with us to make sure we all understood (and demo'd back to him) before he left. Highly recommend ringing him for help :-)

Re: Scrubbing surgical sites

Have a look at this on pre operative patient prep:
