We have facebook and have been regularly updating our facebook page.

But I am happy to say that our little stray is going to a permanent home with a lovely client tomorrow!!!!

Today has been her 6th week with us and she is getting a tiny bit annoyed bless her, I am so happy she finally has a home. Hopefully we won't have another stray here for so long in the future!

Sometimes it does come to euthanasia but that doesn't sit easy with me. Try facebook if your practice has it's own....we have had success with this method. its always worth trying. good luck x

PS .. if its clear that the lady has dumped her then you're well within your rights to rehome her - 5 weeks leaving a cat with no contact ? the cat's yours!

I'm head nurse at the Celia Hammond Animal Trust in lewisham, we rehome approximately 20-30 cats per week ( on a good week!) but rehoming is becoming more and more difficult

Charities like us are packed to the rafters - literally.. if you have a kennel to put the cat in thats more room than a lot of the charities have.. so THANK YOU for doing what you're doing.

For rehoming, by far the best way to get the news out there is via facebook and social media, encourage all your friends to share, not just your veterinary ones .. and it MUST be with a super cute picture .. if you have a child that can hold the cat even better!!. Include a little about the cat's story too, make it personal.

There are also a lot of independant cat homers who help with situations like this, if you PM me I can give you the name of one such lady who only takes cats from vets, if she cant help she may well know somebody that can.

Does the practice you work in have a facebook page? If so it may be putting her on there with a nice photo. Or on your own to get friends to share :-)

Thanks everyone. I feel so sorry for her being cooped up in a kennel, and feel she would be much better off as a stray at the moment!

We have tried every small/big, local/not so local charity we can think off and everywhere is full to bursting, she s on various lists for charities & foster lists. We just don't know what else to do!

I had her at my house for the weekend (OH was away so didn't know, and not allowed a pet in my flat.....although I currently have a sick hedgehog tonight!). She was so lovely and just wanted a bit of attention so it's such a shame :(

.... or euthanased because the kennels are full to busting and there is no room for them.

Most smaller local charities will let you 'advertise' on their Facebook pages. I have had success with this in the past :) it gets it out there to people looking for a cat, but doesn't put pressure on the charities who can't take the cat in.

We often get stuck in the same situation and I find it quite frustrating! I often feel these cats would be better of being stray than cooped up in a small kennel for months on end. I am curious as to the legalities of the situation as with dogs they get taken by the councils and owners have 7 days to come forward before they are placed in kennels for rehoming.

Cats protection in haywards heath are often quite helpful, but someone will need to drive the cat there, but since its a large facility they are often able to take them in if you can get them there.. also you could ask your local cats protection branch to place the cat on its website with a photo, also do the same on your own website or facebook page if you have one, and a poster in reception may help to generate some interest.. Also not sure where your based but often local charities can be really helpful, and your be surprised at how many there are once you start looking...

have you got anybody that can foster until a place becomes available for her? Sometimes its easier to find foster than permanent home

We contact Cats Protection and they'll take them in when they've got the space, that's if staff members haven't rehomed first :-)
