Me too! It does seem that DAVN is full time however and having to leave practice doesn't make me feel comfortable. Am I right in thinking there a three universities in total?

[/quote]

The Dip AVN isn't really full time, and you need to be in practice, all Myerscough ask when you apply is...have you got at least 15hours a week spare (outside of work) to commit to the study you need to do, there are 3 study weekdays and 3 study weekends to complete both years, your written exams can be taken in practice provided you have a VN or VS to invigilate it for you.

I think, although I am prepared to be wrong, that there is only 2 providing the RCVS accredited AVN course (where you can get your blue badge) and they are Myerscough and Harper Adams. The RVC do provide an AVN course but you cannot gain your blue badge from that particular course at the moment.

I am lucky that my practice are funding my diploma and we do get a decent CPD allowance when not completing the diploma although we are encouraged to try and get sponsorship/bursaries from external places such as drug companies etc.

Re: Further Education

It's becoming more and more apparent that practices want nurses to create a business plan reasoning why they should fund further studies. How it would benefit both yourself and the practice. My vn was paid for by my practice; my davn was paid for by my practice and a bvna bursary; my bsc was funded by student loans. I think I've been fairly lucky in that the practices I've worked for were supportive and willing to pay some/all! My bsc was supported but was seen as not any more beneficial than the things I'd already done, so student finance paid for that. I think most practices are more willing to fund things that they can see improving their practice in some way. e.g. increase revenue, keep staff happy and motivated etc

Good luck with whatever you decide to study!
