It works very well for us and the dog club. So in answer to you question no I dont think you need to be qualified to run them

Re: Puppy Parties

Hi Rebecca,

Whilst most puppy parties/classes are run by VN's in practice, you do not neccesarily need to be a VN to run them. However, the person running them must be familiar with puppy behaviour and socialisation, as well as all the other things that you might talk about during the class (parasites, oral care, grooming, diet etc etc) and so in most cases a VN has the knowledge/experience to talk to owners confidently about these subjects.

Does your practice already run puppy parties/classes? If so, I would recommend helping out with some to get an idea of what is involved and how to manage puppies (and their owners!). I'm not sure if there is any specific course that you can do to train to do these, but learning about how puppies learn, socialisation and how to deal with puppy interaction would be a good first step as it is important to get it right from the start. A badly run puppy party can actually do more harm than good to a pup!
