We're here if you need to vent! :D The world is only as evil as you make it. Everything happens for a reason. Including the things in Africa. If it wasn't for people suffering somewhere others would never know suffering. We take the bad and we can dwell on it and do nothing. OR we could take it and make our own little world a better place as best as we can, this in turn may make someone else's world a better place and so on...

I think for the time being I'm just going to lie low and see what happens... I hope that this was either a one off thing or that if she does carry on then people will realise what she's like. She seems quite well-received at the moment as she's a bubbly, chatty girl, although I do wonder whether she may be a bit insecure which is making me think that could be the reason behind her lies. Not an excuse though and I don't think I could keep quiet a second time if I overheard her lying again. But for now I'm putting it down to new-job nerves, and trying to put it behind me whilst at the same time treating her with caution and taking anything she says about people with a pinch of salt! (Luckily I don't have to work directly with her very often.)

Thanks again for your thoughtful replies, if anyone has any other advice or wants to vent if they're in a similar situation, feel free!

It defo says alot about the person if they are new and already gossiping. Not nice atmosphere though. Steph n STRVN are right in saying what goes around comes around, not always easy to keep that in mind though. And I dont know about you but im impatient and want things sorted out yesterday!

I also will agree with steph, sometimed=s it is better left to lie no matter how much you wanna punch someones lights out metaphorically speaking of course.

If you are true to yourself and have proved to be a model employee , then this person will be found out soon enough. Bide your time I know it will be hard but you will reap the rewards eventually.

Give this person enough rope to hang themselves....... and she surely will.

I don't think I would do either. I would just let it lie, if you're not doing or being the way she's saying you are what do you have to worry about? Actions speak louder than words.

You could grass her and then it could go either way your line manager could sort it out for you

they could make matters worse and make it difficult for you with other co workers.

you could confront her on her own and argue have her promise not to say anything again and then she will do the same damn thing behind your back

OR you just won't trust her even if she doesn't.

Personally if it were me I would sit tight, do your job the best you can and prove her wrong and stop being so defensive about it. This isn't grade school and if you stoop to her level that's all its ever going to be.

If you happen to catch her in the act again in future, step in when it's happening and confront her and the person she's discussing it with. But until then don't mention it to anyone and just prove them wrong!

Be the bigger person!! Unless she is physically hurting you or setting you up there's no reason to get involved in her petty childish bull shit.

Eventually everyone will catch on just like you and realise she is just a gossip and attention seeker. If she's saying things like this about you it's probably pretty likely she's doing the same to other people.

It all comes round don't worry!

shearer is right, the nurse is most likely feeling threatened or jealous of you, prolly coz your obviously a nicer person than her, go straight to the source, see if she lies again to your face, prolly will, set her straight!

I would have to agree with Caro! However, its probably better if you can speak to your line manager if you feel it has upset you and may affect how you work within the nursing team.

Its a shame that there can often be such a lot of bitching and sniping in the workplace..... you will find that those doing it are usually by no means perfect themselves!

Am afraid l go straight to the source. But l am me not many will speak up is a hang up from when l was a kid. l would have walked up to the person after listening and saying excuse me and repeating whatever followed by where she had this mis info from.

Most would use MacFruitys suggestion as the most sensible.

Have you got a line manager you can speak to?

I was in the same situation a while ago. It depends on the situation but what I did was spoke to the person who was told the lies then speak to the new member of staff and ask her why she said what she did.

Its a horrible situation to be in, I hope your ok. Keep your chin up and don't stoop to her level. xxx
