Are you sure you're not getting mixed up? Vetfone nurses give advice to M&S clients amongst others, they are not employed by M&S and don't advise on insurance, only pet health.

Vetfone don't employ VNs with less than 3 years experience and you really have to know your stuff, so the OP might find that this wouldn't be suitable.

I recently moved to a cat-only clinic and find there is so much less heavy lifting - much better for my back. Maybe working in an exotics department of a referral centre/university might suit you. I know someone who isn't a nurse but she works in an exotics department at a University and teaches the vet students handling & husbandry.

I have thought about this, i have back problems after a injury so its lifting bending standing/sitting in positions for to long things like these:\ do like the idea of cat only practices but i am a huge small furries fan so may have to man up and see if i can hack referral work!:\

Pet nutritionist. I've just left a job doing this and it is basically answering food & health queries via e-mail or over the phone. Keep an eye on the pet trade magazines for jobs with the pet food companies x

You haven't said what aspect of the job you will struggle with - is it the heavy physical side of the job or dexterity that will be an issue or something else?

Yup - most pet insurance companies hire VN's to give either advice prior to clients using emergency OOH clinics (I think M&S do this...) or just to give clients some general advise re:claims, conditions etc. VetNow are also now hiring VN's to give emergency advice to clients. I think the jobs also tend to pay a bit better than your standard vet nursing jobs in clinics (depending on your area) but obviously would be completely up to yourself on how you feel about this hope this helps!

Could you work in a call centre for insurance or emergency centres? It doesn't sound exciting but it would keep you in the field? I've just got a job working over the phones part time and staying in clinics the rest of my time, not started yet but looking forward to trying something new!

People I've spoken to have mentioned that but im just not HN / Managerial material, I think its one of those things your either good at or not and I would not be haha

how about working more towards a HN/managerial role where the job isnt so physical? ( note for anybody wanting to pick a fight I am not saying HNs and managers dont do any physical work before anybody jumps on me for that statement just that all work isnt physical in this role)
