I get a good wage, have college paid for, close to home and flexible working hours so sounds like I have a very good deal. However I am becoming unhappy with my lack of actual training.
Not done it myself but a few students I know who are employed at a practice which just doesn't get the caseloads required to complete NPL requirements (and for their own practical experience) have/do part-time experience (unpaid) work at another independently owned practice. Obviously college, the practices concerned and you need to cross all the T's and dot all the I's in this respect; this from your current practice allowing you to go to another one right through to the (financial/time) costs of you doing so yourself! It isn't the easiest option but if you're already working at a lovely practice (bar this fly in the ointment) it might be the best solution for you.

I can say that all students involved, like you, are keen to be the very best that they can. With an attitude like that - you'll go far. Good luck and I hope you find what you need to succeed!

I moved practices towards the end of first year and no issues at all. You college shoulf support you and point in the right direction, mine certainly did.

The NPl just gets delayed slightly while the RCVS gives your nee cc lognin details but your new experienced cc would be able to get you caught up again in no time.

Good luck!

To throw it away would be such a huge waste, but at the same time if you are that unhappy there you need to weigh up the pros and cons. It's hard to say because I'm yet to find a training practice myself, but I would do as much as the work as you can in your own time, maybe if the practice isn't that busy ask if you can have some study time? It also may kick them into thinking about the things you need to be learning. Ask them what's next on your syllabus, go away and read into it and then ask them to go over what you've covered?

I have seen a lot of practices hiring 2nd year students, so having the first year under your belt is a real advantage. Like you said, if the training is non-exsistant there's no point you finishing the course and not feeling you're ready.

Good luck!

Re: Moving practice during training?

Hi When I did my training back in 2010/2011 with the portfolio I moved practiced between the 2 types, I'm not 100% sure how this effects the NPL? Best to have a chat to you college about moving and see what they say! When I moved my previous practice didn't pay me and was at least 30-45mins drive away, while my new practice paid me and was only 5mins drive from my home!

But best to have a chat with you college tutor/lecturer as they will be able to point you in the right direction/get things moving. At the end of the day your training is your main priority!

Hope all works out for you!
