And still sedated enough to cannulate and induce anaesthesia. Thus reducing dose of induction agent required we use between 0.01-0.02mg/kg ACP in dogs, dependant on age of patient and pre-op assesment.

Re: Methadone

Great, thanks everyone, we are using 0.3mg/kg in dogs, just good to know what others are using, we are using Acp also as a pre-med, we are only using low dose Acp with methadone at present on mostly young healthy dogs, does anyone use higher Acp dose and if do any problems?
Once again Thanks for any replies :-)

Re: Methadone

In dogs we routinely use 0.4mg/kg. in cats we routinely used 0.15mg/kg. This is repeated every 4hrs. If your noticing patients are very sedated you can reduce your ACP dose significantly.

Re: Methadone

Hi

we use methadone at 0.3mgs/kg very very slow i/v but you can dose anywhere between 0.2mg/kg-0.5mg/kg. We did initially use the higher dose but like one of the others mentioned the patients were more sedated and it caused bradycardia, which is not ideal when you are going to be anaesthetising the soon.

Re: Methadone

We also use 0.3mg/kg although you can go up to 0.5mg/kg, but we found animals were very sedated at this dose. 0.3mg/kg seems to work well, and provide decent analgesia.

Re: Methadone

Our standard dose in a healthy animal is 0.3mg per kg
