I agree with everyone else here - £7 an hour is a very generous wage! I'm almost tempted to re-locate and apply!

I'm a trainee and I earn minimum wage... I get paid a salary and not hourly so most weeks it probably works out as much less than that! It's never really bothered me to be honest because I was so desperate to get a SVN job for so long that I'm just greatful to have finally been given a chance! Plus despite the poor pay and long hours I really like the practice I work at and the people I work with - they're so kind and patient when teaching me. :-)

Good luck with finding your new trainee! I hope they appreciate it!

When I started at my first practice, aged 17 as a nursing assistant, I got £3.30 an hour!!

The most I earned as I trainee, am talking towards the end of my training too, was £4.92!!!!

same here as we were on £1.62 per hour to suddenly go up to minimum wage was a tragedy!!! he was a tight ***, i remember him threatening us with redundancy as he couldn't possibly afford to pay us!!!

I was at a practice for 7 years (left 5 yrs ago) and half way thru, the minimum wage was introduced.... but up to then , my boss at the time was paying level 1 student VN's £2.00 an hour... which went up to , I think, £2.50 in level 3!!! So I think the minimum wage was introduced about 8years ago? The language that came out of my boss when he first heard about the min wage being introduced, he was not a happy bunny!!

Many moons ago, way back yonder, in the deep dark depths of the Eighties, my first job at a non-training practice, was paying me £50 for approx a 40hour wk.... Can't quite remember exact hours..... It's my age, you know!...... and £25 of this went on rent for a flat I shared, and I smoked at the time, and went out regularly.... don't know quite how I did it..... cycled everywhere.... probably hardly ate anything and half a pint of larger and lime was probably about 5p!!!!

Anyway it got me abit of vet experience, which then got me into a training practice as a trainee nurse, so I didn't do too badly by it. Everyone has to start somewhere and it got me what I wanted..... even tho I didn't know this at the time!!

ha just worked out when i started as a newbie no experience 12yrs ago i was on £1.62per hour

how mental is that!!! i used to earn £65 a week, so i think that wage your offering sounds absolutely amazing!!!!

For that wage i had to work at least 40 hrs + loads of unpaid overtime + oncall of which i remember many occasions as an 18yr old having to come back to practice at 2-3 am on my own to give injections of pethidine - i cannot believe that i did it now looking back!!

think that is why it pees me off when my trainees moan at doing 40hrs per week no overtime or on call and 1 in 4 saturdays -they don't know they are born!!!!!!

i'm not bitter though

I get £5.73 an hour with 1 yrs experience before beginning employment with my training practice. So that sounds an amazing wage!!

£2/hr?? How long ago was that! I started about 15 years ago on £3/hr & thought that was brilliant!!

That is a great wage for a trainee! i started on £3.60 when i did my training 5 years ago!!!!!! At my practice now we offer £5.73 1st year then it goes up to £7 ish in 2nd.

I just worked out what my initial wage was as a 1st yr trainee 10yrs ago I was on £3.12 an hour and that was with a bit of experience behind me

the part time would be brilliant, not sure about the Friday though as I work for a charity vet clinic on that afternoon. I'd have to live away from home as well so stringing all the complete days together would be better, but beggars can't be choosers....

Wow - that is a good wage! I'm on minimum wage but I have no experience so wasn't expecting more than that anyway.

4 vets & 8 VNs/Staff?

Count me in!!!!

Today I had 1 VN, 2 reception staff & 5 Vets. At lunchtime I got a locum VN. I did pre ops all morning & was asked at 12 O'clock why I hadn't processed the Vets & staffs monthly O/T sheets as they wouldn't be happy if gthey didn't get their on call !!!!!!!!!!

Well it good to know that this is a good wage, certainly is since I was a student but then tht was 11yrs ago!

We are based in Norfolk just a small little clinic with two banches (only one a TP)staff between the two are four vets, 3 RVNs (including me), one svn, one experience nurse (not wanting to train), one ANA and two receptionists, i am desperate to find a svn with experience but cant find one around this area. So if you know of anyone in the Kings Lynn / Downham market area get them to call me. I have posted in the job section but it is funny hours as I am looking for cover Thurs, Fri, sat (1/2 day) and sunday and then one day at college (wed), overall its a good package for someone with experience and wanting to get that badge but not for everyone with the hours. Just wish that there was more people out this way wanting a job like this!

Thats FAB! I was on £5.45 in my first year

Then in my second year £6.71 and thats what I am on at the moment even thought I have passed all my exams and just waiting for my badge etc to come through!

What practice do you work for? Is it CVS? I have been working in my practice for 8 years got my ANA but they won't train me as it's not a TP and I am still on minimum wage!!

best ive seen in all the interviews ive been to is 5.93, worst 5.73

i think people would be chomping at the bit for that wage

well I would be first in the queue to apply for the job .... 3 years nursng experience, HND in Animal Management with Distinction and with 80+% in the two nursing exams.

Quite a lot of student nurses are on minimum wage.
