college to study the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing as a 'mature'
student.
I am trying to find a work placement to start this September in the West Midlands but no luck so

Re: Situation Wanted - Trainee Vet Nurse Placement for Mature Student!

All the best to the both of you l am not sure which one l have been chatting to but fairly sure but you know this mud island dweller if we have been chatting

Re: Situation Wanted - Trainee Vet Nurse Placement for Mature Student!

Hi Jennie,

I know it is really hard! I have seen lots of RVN's roles too, which gets me all frustrated because I cannot believe the ratio between RVN's and SVN's.

Oh well I guess we will have to keep plugging away at it, and soon something will come up!

I shall keep my fingers crossed for you!

Kind regards,

Unless I find a placement I cannot do the course, the very few institutions that offer the course where I live require you to find the placement yourself.

I already have a Veterinary Support Assistant Level 3 qualification and plenty of volunteering experience, I could not do the course last year as I could not find a placement which is really frustrating!

Aaaaaaaaaah it's so hard! It's a shame really as I see pleny of advertisements everywhere for RVN's but that's because no one can get qualified in the first place!!!

Re: Situation Wanted - Trainee Vet Nurse Placement for Mature Student!

Hi Rachel,

The Colleges around my area that cater for this type of course all require you to be employed at a registered Practice.

I have also asked about the Volunteering side of things, and they only have a set number of volenteers throughout the year.

I think for me it is a mixture of bad timing within the year and also a lack of vacancies.

I am thinking of doing an NVQ level 4 in Animal Management, as I feel that may help towards me finding a placement o begin with, whilst also loking for any volunteer work.

Would you recommend any books, or Study guides, that would help towards the NVQ?

Thank you so much for your help, I really do appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Some colleges sort placements for you so it might be worth contacting your college to see if they can help. I struggled to find a TP and ended up moving over here from Northern Ireland! I also sent my cv to every TP in the area. How about doing some volunteering at practice for experience? It's hard to get it but it's well worth it when you get qualified :)

I am looking for the same thing in the South West area, preferably in the Hampshire region, I am also struggling.

Have you had anyone, give you any Tips?

I was told to go into the Practices and hand in CV's and Covering letters Face to Face.

Do let me know how you get on, as I think it is quite a hard profession to get into.

Kind regards,
