Is anyone else currently studying for their City and Guilds Nursing Cert in Exotics or has anyone completed it successfully? I am really struggling to find the time to study and have already deferred from sitting the exam in July. I don't think

RE: City and Guilds exotic certificate

That's great you both passed! well done. its nice to know everyone found it difficult but glad we passed. I totally underestimated the amount of work involved. Thankfully I got hit by a car in June which allowed me 4 weeks of studying lol every cloud as they say! I then used 2 weeks holiday to study 15 hours every day to catch up on making my own notes, this is on top of making time between working, small child, cleaning....... Have to say though I am really enjoying it but will be glad to get to the exam and then go over all the material in my own time. Reassuring to read that the practicals aren't as bad as I anticipated. I started in May 2014 with the idea that I would take the first 6 months to condense all the notes and research anything I struggled with. Then 8 weeks to complete the assignments before our baby arrived (!) Just falling short on my time frame but still hope to complete last 2 modular assignment blocks leaving me Feb to June to revise over and over again! Anyone else sitting in Edinburgh end of June? :) Good luck everyone!!! x

RE: City and Guilds exotic certificate

Yes I sat it in November. I thought I had def failed but actually passed. I can't say i was very impressed with the exams, we should have been told in advance that the notes were comprehensive but the exams weren't. Also the practical exam wasnt practical!

RE: City and Guilds exotic certificate

Hi Tracey,

did you take your exam in November? I was also sitting the exam and am amazed and pleased to say I passed! I was just wondering how many of the students for the recent November sitting in London passed? it would be nice to know :).

I found it much harder than expected, but I got there!

I completed my certificate in November last year. I took 18 months to complete the assignments and revise. When revising I made my own revision notes to condense down the massive amount of information we had received. It took a lot of will power to study every week and the exams seemed pretty tough but I passed and now appreciate my hard work whilst studying,it's definitely worth it. Have you contacted Simon or Mary? They are really helpful and understanding and might be able to give you some tips to help you. Coming up to my exams I had posters up all round the house and my boyfriend would ask me questions. Don't get disheartened. I found that I struggled with the avian unit so when revising I did the other units first and then came back to it at the end

Don't give up :)

Remembering back I started early in September and did take the exams the following August. I was doing 3-5 hours of study per week, some at home, some at work went it was quiet and then having about 2 weeks at the end to do all the revision. Did not know what the exams would be like, esp the practical but neither exam was too bad looking back. The practical back then was a 'round robin' type exam where you moved around different stations answering various questions on practical elements of exotic nursing.

Good luck. The hard work is definitely worth it in the end!
