i vaguely remember being told once to be wary about using them because they increase dead space and resistance

We use them also.

We have both sizes in stock, normal use smaller ones for <10kg patient and the otehrs for >10kg patients. Need to keep an eye on CO2 levels and change them as required. Only really use them when using non-rebreathing circuits or on lengthy ops

But to be honest we just use them if you get me. We use both sizes but thats just because we do. When i learnt a little about them at college and questioned them my questions got shrugged off.

I think they are good for rebreathing circuits so that its not cold air, i worry about using them on rebreathing because it can make the circuits damp but then it also stops moisure from being inhaled!
