my boss relies on us bonding client as understands that client will open up to nurses more readily and form a bond.

we sign the vacc card - if trainee has done the consult then they get a vet to sign for them but rvn sign their own.

i too love doing these consults as they can often be the start of new client relationship and it feels good if they had good experience with their precious new baby and you were part of it.

Re: 2nd vaccinations

We kind of have the best of both worlds when it comes to 2nd vaccs. At both first and second vaccinations the client has a 10 minute appointment with a vet and a 20 minute nurse appointment - for the first vacc it is vet first, then nurse and the opposite way around for the second vacc. The vet does all vaccinations, but we get the time to chat over how they are going, check worm and flea treatments and generally answer any questions they have. It seems to work well!

We do most of the microchipping too.

Re: 2nd vaccinations

I agree totally ST... Does anyone else agree?

Re: 2nd vaccinations

We do the second vaccs and microchips. Can people who do 2nd vaccs pls tell me who signs the vacc cards... We've been thru this before and I've had e-mails from the RCVS.. it all comes down to whether your practice has vaccination cards or vaccination certificates... if they are certificates then a vet has to be present when you give the vacc, to be able to sign the card..... so they may as well do the vaccination themselves... also nurses can ony do the vacc if the 1st vacc was done at your practice and given a full health check by your vet, and also nurses can only give if your vet believes in nurses abilities/ has faith in you etc.

We don't do 2nd vaccs ( athough I would love to and believe that we are extremely capable) but we do do microchipping.

We don't do 2nd vaccination... yet. We had a 2 month trial but only managed to get one client who could come to nurse clinics. We only had the support of 1 vet out of 4 and even then we weren't even allowed to give the vaccination the vet did it after checkig the puppy over- we could only discuss preventative health and nutrition.

Re: 2nd vaccinations

2nd vacc no...microchipping yes, all of the time! I don't like doing it though, i feel very mean! The animals that i do tend to get a nice treat (if they'll trust me enough to take it!) so that they don't hate me!

Re: 2nd vaccinations

There's a link on rcvs.org which I printed off to try & persuade my boss to let me do it.
