I know they aren't - I know most people and training centres work really hard to get their students through

Moodle is usually blended learning that is undertaken in your own time. This is totally separate to guided learning hours, of which the 3 hours logged weekly in practice count towards.

They shouldn't be confused. As above the 3 hours per week is learning at work, so actually doing your job and learning new techniques or new cases. NOT sitting doing NPL/moodle work/blended learning.

Students should be logging the cases, time spent and person with them to provide evidence of this learning.

Got confused had my student saying 3 hours sit down time (as thats what her college told her) and head nurse saying 3 hr per week.

Glad thats sorted.

[/quote] Not sure your supposed to have time to do as you please. I certainly didn't, I was lucky to get an hour a week in work time to sit and write assignments or do my Npl. I just wonder if where this student, who goes shopping, is training is a bit of a joke. I only qualified last year and it was never a case of having 3 hours to do what you want. College certainly never gave us the ok to do this. I really don't think all training centres or practices are like this.

Agree with you Sal. The 'little green book' had it's issues but having time off to basically do as you please certainly wasn't an option back then.

Off topic slightly but we take animal care students from our local college for work experience and what they tell me about their training beggers belief.

Sal it was made clear to us that moodle time was our n time to do what we want -- obviously studying is what your ideally supposed to do - but some will use it to go shopping and do other things unrelated - since you don't have to stay in practice! Obviously time will tell at exam time if you have studied or done other things which the time is not meant for. My friend who is training is always off shopping but then she is a brain box and good at retaining things so can afford not to study every week - my memory on the otherhand is like a sieve.

We get it classed as 3 hours moodle - which does not neccessary mean it has to be with your CC - it is time where the student has a half day i practice finishes at 1pm could study on their own in practice or at home - study for assignments - If the CC is available that's great as you can do a planned activity but this 3 hours does not have to be with a clinical coach at all or if they choose student could go shopping etc! Its not compulsory for the student to take it where I am. As long as we are metting at least once a week to discuss progress and we are doing ok - college is happy.

I agree with the above post.

It is not likely you have 3 hours spare to sit down with your student.

the 3 hours is active learning. E.g demonstration of tasks, observing your student and working towards competency, allowing your student time to log cases.

The sit down stuff is done at college.

The whole point of the NPL is practical day 1 skills.

You yourself may need a couple of hours a week to access the NPL and accept / deny competency.

My understanding is that it is working alongside - eg training on the job. Obviously needs to include some sit down and planning time but not 3 hours per week.

you'd be hard pushed to sit down for 3 hours with your student (at least i think anyway). i think it means that you should be spending this sort of time inn training/ tutorials etc x
