Wow 15 years!! I joined in 2009 when I first started training.. Since then I have qualified and graduated with honours and have just applied to do my masters degree in anaesthesia and analgesia with edinburgh university.

I gained a postgrad certificate in veterinary nutrition and sauntered off to london for a year to work in referral practice before moving back home to the welsh valleys to work in my first ever practice again!

Still in love with nursing, found a new passion for consulting and setting up nutrition clinics..

Moved in with my partners and adopted two dogs to go alongside my beautiful cat (who is 5 now) and definitely still rules the house!

RE: VetNurse Reunion, Mammoths and stuff

Hello mushroom Claire!
I remember! Good to hear from you again
since then have dipped in and out of the page and spend most of the time reading posts late to find someone has usually beaten me to the answer so I never post much.
Well, I'm in the middle of changing the site structure so that it is interest group based, which I see you've noticed because you've joined lots of them this morning!

The idea is for vetnurse to metamorphosise from what it was back in the day, which was chit chat about more or less anything, into the place for the highest quality clinical/nursing discussions and information-sharing.

This new group structure makes it easier for everyone to find content that interests them, easier to connect with others with shared interests, and easier for experts in particular fields to follow and contribute to forums that relate to their area of interest.

Behind the scenes, I'm now 'recruiting' expert contributors to head up these groups, either because they want to give something back to the profession, or because they want to promote something veterinary (I give free advertising for experts).

So, I'm very interested in hearing from anyone who has particular expertise in any of the groups listed under 'interests' at the top.
now- where is my Mammoth badge from BSAVA gone?
I've still got mine!

RE: VetNurse Reunion, Mammoths and stuff

hi,

like Ian M (Head of Bollocks!...spat ma tea out thanks!) I totally seem to have missed this thread through the years too.

I was Mushroom Claire right back at the beginning of things but since then have dipped in and out of the page and spend most of the time reading posts late to find someone has usually beaten me to the answer so I never post much.

I was head nursing back in the day (that statement shows how old I am) and in 2008 moved to a new practice that I was supposed to only stay for a short time as I was going to locum for a while. I stayed there till 2014 (lo)when after many surgeries and let downs my mental health took a battering so I decided to leave as I felt I was letting the team down as head nurse.

after handing in my notice I signed up with a locum agency and had a complete renewal of nursy type energy. totally enjoying actually nursing and not having to deal with the associated paperwork..ROTAS...bill chasing...ROTAS....insurance forms..ROTAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in my personal life I am still married to Glenn - 21yrs this year..god help him and we have a gimpy legged cat called Oscar.

that's about it

now- where is my Mammoth badge from BSAVA gone?

:)

RE: VetNurse Reunion, Mammoths and stuff

Sorry this one passed me by completely in 2014. 2015. 2016. 2017. 2018. Thanks to Katie / Twigs for bumping.

Yes I was here at the beginningish and in fact the mammoths thing originated back in 1999 at Wood Green from myself and a couple of the deceptionists.

Obviously I brought it to the forum!. I have to say I don't visit much, mainly because I have hardly been nursing directly since 2000 and also because this thing called facebook came along.

So in a nutshell.... since the olden days I got a job as a dog warden, then an animal welfare inspector, then got offered a role managing the neutering scheme for Cats Protection ("Head of Bollocks") and following this International Cat Care recruited me to run their welfare stream (was called FAB in those days - I thought up the new name).

So at the point you started this thread in 2014 I had taken a year out after a relentless two years of flying back and forth for ICC (trust me, it's no fun after the first three months) and was living cheaply on the coast of Northern Portugal with a sea view, balcony and garage for 320 euros a month, and whoring myself out for a week at a time to any animal charity or government that would hire me as a freelancer. Ended up working for 4 of my previous employers in the space of three weeks.

After a brief stint in Bermuda in 2015, I then went to Cumbria in the UK to what is now called Oak Tree Animals Charity, followed by 2 years at the Malta SPCA, and now back to Bermuda SPCA as Inspector. I am mainly focusing on taking things on for a couple of years at a time in charities which need some training and development input, and ideally building in a succession plan.

Married to Sylvia, she is only 14 and a bloody sexy minx with extremely hairy legs and a liking for Hills Senior. Absolutely no idea what my next job will be in 2020, to a certain extent it will be Sylvia-dependent if she doesn't peg it, fortunately I have a rather wide range of experience which means the field of choice a bit bigger.

Still in touch with a few of the crew via facebook - Sal, Carolyn, Katie, Kate, Jane etc......

Mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth Mrs May,

Mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth Reggie Kray.

Mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth Peter Kay,

Mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth mammoth, pregnant spay!

Boom boom.

I was on here loads (too much?!) years and years ago as an SVN - Twiggyette. After qualifying I worked in a few different practices and ended up in referral, got married and then left nursing after my daughter was born. I had my son, and dabbled a bit in other part time jobs, then my marriage broke down due to domestic violence. I’ve moved back to my parents with the kids and sent my cv out to a local practice and have been lucky enough to have got a job full time and with the opportunity to go back to the register. Just completed my first week and its all come flooding back!
Not sure whether a charity would really want a bottle of champagne. I suppose they could give it away as a raffle prize (or drown their sorrows if fundraising isn't going well).

Starting: Tina Severnuryer threw back the curtains with gusto, the morning sunshine causing her to squint as she looked out into the garden and contemplated the day ahead, her first at Glands, Discharge and Partners, a small veterinary practice in the market town of Brindlesham.
