yep 1st year - well 4 weeks left then 2nd year if pass exams!! I,m trying to get as much npl done as poss this year to take pressure off - npl going really well - pleased at moment and the practice i,m in is great - loads of opportunities to get stuff the only thing i won't get is ECGS there but everthing else is covered - including my urinary catheters which I though I would really struggle to get.

you in your first year? im in second and i thought i was struggling in the first year until the second year came with exams, assignments, NPL deadline and practical revision!! its very draining but im sure you'll be fine! x

cheers got about a week and a half to revision everything very disjoined and unorganised as don't really know what to concentrate on, just a bit of everything really at the moment for paper 1 - I though accomodation would come under paper 2 husbandry but C&G handbook says its in one is need to look at that. Hard trying to study, npl and be in practice be glad when paper one and two are over and concentrate on NPL/ practice over the summer holidays.

we had a lot of equine questions too! and on one of the exams (can't remeber which one as it was last year) we had a few questions on pet passports/travelling with animals. One of the questions they love using is which of these animals has an ectoskeleton....answer was scorpion aha. good luck xx

I was told to figure out how many questions would be on each subject. If you are only going to get 2 out of 90 questions on a subject you can't get in your head then there is no point wasting time trying for just 2 questions. So maybe you could ask how many questions are likely to come up on disinfectant etc and see if it's worth concentrating that time on something else instead. x

Thanks Clare I,m revising for one the now and finding trying to remember steriliasation cycles, and disinfectants difficult, I am much better with the cat breeds, We were told last year there was stuff on horse markings both face and legs. No we just done basic H&S - fire extinguishers waste etc dreading this now. I keep getting mixed up with the rhodesian ridgeback for some reason i think of it as a gundog and the GSD as working not pastoral as I associate it more with police/ military etc. Need to revise everything horsy as clueless at this.

Don't think it will change if anything probably be worse as they have added lads of stuff to course especially horse stuff! rather have fish? or a whole paper on birds that way I'd know i,d pass :)

Hi I recently did paper 2 and it was easier than I thought it would be although there were questions about horse markings and breeds and shoe shapes that I had no idea about. No fish questions though! There were also questions like what breed of rabbit is white with red eyes, what colour is white and black alternating bands described as and my friends got which of these breeds is in the pastoral group of dogs. But most were easy to answer if you had revised well.

Paper 1 I thought was horrendous personally! There were lots of H+S questions and about stuff we weren't taught but after our teachers said we were meant to read around the subject! Helpful after lol. Questions like how long to keep xray record book and schedule 1 drugs book after last entry, what colour are the mandatory instructions on the HSE poster. So if your teachers haven't gone in to too much detail about the health and safety side I would suggest reading around the subject. Although this may have all changed but I took paper one in sept last year and paper 2 in march this year.

Your C + G qualification handbook gives a detailed breakdown of the learning outcomes covered by each exam.

Have you had a look at the city & guilds qualification handbook? It tells you what topics are in each exam and how the questions are weighted.

Paper 1 is infection control, health & safety and nursing the hospitalised patient.

Paper 2 is anatomy & physiology, animal welfare, nutrition and breeding.

I am sitting paper 2 soon and have been told to not worry too much about fish. But very important to understand the differences of horse, rabbit, birds and reptile/chelonians/snakes from the normal cat & dog (oh and ruminants for the digestion part!).

I would greatly advice revising equine. Would hate to steer you in the wrong direction so obviously don't make it your prime focus but city and guilds love the equine questions :)
