very interesting.We had a pup in,very ill with neurological signs.It was being returned to the breeder in Wales who then wrote to the puppy owner saying they had a distemper outbreak.I believe one puppy was sent to Langford and an investigation had begun into where it had come from.I think a couple of uni's are looking into it-the disease and the vaccination.Does anyone know how these cases are actually confirmed as distemper? I'm a breed health co ordinator and get into frequent discussion about vaccines-many believe these diseases are no longer a threat but I think this proves otherwise

We referred a youngster down to Langford, passed away and confirmed as Distemper. This was about 3 weeks ago now.

We have also had 3 dogs from the same family all confirmed as distemper. 2 were pts and 1 went home.

Hiya. We're n swansea , south wales and we had a pup in few weeks ago. Referred to langford in Bristol and confirmed distemper. We've never seen one before so interesting. Is now on long term keppra and twitches but otherwise ok. This was a pup preaented witth seizure episodes and from a breeder in Newport area. Is yours the same?

We're in South Wales Langford have had two cases in the last two wks from not far from us, The dog is at the pneumonia stage v+ but no d+ yet is quite a thin dog not much reserves, the nurse on o/n reports that it pulled its iv out and trashed its kennel twice so is still v bright

This is a blast from the past - haven't seen a case for ages. We used to get runs of this when I worked for a charity hospital. What stage is your dog at now? The cases I have nursed if you could get them through the pneumonia, the diarrhoea and manage the fits at an early stage they had a reasonable chance but a lot depended on how early the client brought the dog in for treatment and what body condition it was in.

Fingers crossed. What area are you based in? Pretty rare to see it now I would have thought. Is it a foreign import?

We all feel for the dog it's not yet showing neuro signs but guessing only a matter of time, swabs gone off tonight for definite diagnosis

Never nursed a case, but there are lots of distemper survivors among the eastern european stray dog population - complete with longterm neuro twitches.
