Well done on the placement I am a mature student aged 47 and never thought I would get a placement, but was lucky enough to get one in Bradford. Looking forward to starting there in September.

Well done! I started just after I had turned 36 doing the degree and qualified 2 months before I was 40 last year. I am a Head Nurse now. I am taking 2 older students on in the next 6 months. Never too old! Good luck.

Hi, I'm 35 and have just got a placement to start training as a VN in Sept 2014. Like you I had a lot of background experience (zoology degree, worked as a pet nutritionist, qualified in canine massage) but no work experience....I applied to 60 different practices but in the end the one that offered me a place did so BECAUSE I'm older and have a proven track record of studying.

If it's really what you want to do then go for it . 36 is def not too old ...I have had loads of students in their 40's and they frequently bring great client skills as they have some more life experience ..and a bit of common sense with them too . Keep being persistent and you will get somewhere ..and post a lot on here so that you can make contacts and get tipped off if anyone has space

Thankyou both. Sadly im in Lincolnshire. I will keep trying for as long as it takes... its just disheartening when get no response or get knockbacks...

People would say that to me you have 2 degrees and you want to throw it all away to be a VN! So I know what it mean. I,m 31 the only regret I have is having no money - to the point have to take days off as can't afford to go to college but i,m hoping it will be worth it in the end. Your def not to old - get some work experience, I did feel daft being on work experience at that age but its the only way to get experience and looks good for your college interview as it shows you are keen, have a realistic idea of the veterinary profession and the role of VN whilst letting you experience thee work invloved. I didn't start till I was 42 so no plenty of time yet!! We take work experience, based in West Sussex if that's any help? Don't giv up
