Calling all fellow svn's! I'm currently training as a vet nurse (level 3 diploma) and we have started our exams. I am really panicking because no matter how much revision I do, it feels like I'm not learning anything.

The vet I was with in theatre would make me name instruments or quiz me on anatomy.

I also used to make my own Q&A cards and leave them on the side so any member of staff could select a question at random and pounce on me.

Re: Exams

I used to take some holiday before my exams to revise. Not ideal I know because we want to use holiday leave to do nice things but it will be worth it when you are qualified.

Re: Exams

Yes i got our college password.

Re: Exams

I've logged onto vet logic but it says I need an enrolment key from Ian Lever?

Re: Exams

I was the same when doing my exams - the best way I learnt was to re-write my class notes so it was all organised, colour coded and easy to read. Then for the bits that really stuck me I made flash cards, lots and lots of the. I took them to work to get out at quiet moments and asked the others to test me with them. Use your colleagues, get the multiple choice question books and get them to quiz you - mark the ones you struggle on and focus on that area for a bit.

For some reason I cant study in silence, no idea why, but I have to have background noise, a movie I've seen a thousand times so theres noise but I dont get distracted.

One thing my college lecturer told me was that its ok to have one area that you just cant get. If you just cant get your head around it (and mine was muscles) then leave it and focus on everything else.

Time juggling is hard, I mainly did my revision during the day at work and then at weekends when not working. I would leave the evenings for myself though (except when the exams got really close). Take regular breaks, our brains can only take so much at a time. Get friends and family involved - give them your flash cards and get them to test you as well.

I had a fantastic head nurse during my training, when it came to exam time she would pencil us and hour or two alone upstairs to revise together - maybe ask yours if you can start having an hour off the floor once or twice a week to revise.

Hope this helps a little:)

Good luck!!

Re: Exams

We have class notes by the time i'd added all my additional research they were a mess - I really love vet logic for revision - notes, nice colourful diagrams and loads of multi choice questions to practice. I use a mixture of study methods as I don't learn with someone talking at me - I know this so go away and read - I love diagrams so I can break things down into methodical steps and sequences.

Brain storming - I just write down everything know then fill in the gaps. I tend to do the subjects i,m good at first wee recap and swot up on the ones in struggle with doing a few days of each so its fresh in my head for exams.

Re: Exams

Hi. I used to find getting up at 5am to revise before the day 'began' was a good quiet time to learn rather than trying to fit everything in after work when I was tired. Also, reading around the subjects helps to make the basics make sense so you remember them better.

Hope that helps! Best of luck.
