I have deleted this post as I have thought about it and I would rather get some legal advice prior to posting.

Thanks for all the support. Sometimes it just helps to get things off your chest even if there isn't a thing you can do about it!

My previous employer has already got someone for my job - can't blame them, it is only a small practice so one nurse down is a nightmare. They have offered me some weekend shifts when I get back from my honeymoon which might help a bit. Am back trawling the net and sending off cv's that you know you won't get a response to! Am driving everyone mad because I am so bored and stressed - think my other half might change his mind about marrying me at this rate - I am snapping at him all the time and had a fit this morning as I got on the scales and had put on a whole pound! Despite the fact I have been going to the gym pretty much everyday because I have nothing else to do.

Sorry, don't understand the Jan reference? I haven't taken on any ones ID and I wasn't meant to tease anyone and am hoping my post wasn't unfriendly??

In a nutshell, I had a great job as a unqualified nurse or nursing assistant that I had been working in for 6 months. I enjoyed this job, but found being back on call difficult (I have been out of nursing for 5 years). I was approached by another practice with a job offer that seemed to be too good to be true. Moral of the story? It was too good to be true! I gave 6 weeks notice (8 weeks since they offered me the position), then on my last day - I left at 12pm - my new employers to be (!) telephoned me to withdraw their offer. Due to the current economic climate apparently. After being up for two nights running, worrying about my financial situation, I wrote a post on here, wondering if anyone had experienced the same. Then I became worried that someone from the practice might see it, and as I had to wait until Tuesday to get legal advice, I didn't want to pre-warn them that I was seeking advice.

I needn't of worried - I have no legal rights whatever and they are perfectly within their rights to do this to me. As they didn't mention notice period in their offer letter, they don't even have to pay me any notice. I am a little bitter, as they appeared not to care at all about what they have done, nor were even apologetic about not warning me before. If they had only told me a couple of weeks earlier, I probably could of kept my old job.

Again, I do apologise if my post seemed unfriendly. It wasn't meant to cause offense and I didn't think to offer an update until I just saw these responses!

Re: Breach of Contract?

[quote user="STRVN"]

Definitely ring ACAS/CAB as soon as you can. I think you're right that if you start work, then you are accepting the job on whatever terms the employer has imposed.

Minimum notice for dismissal is 1 week but that only applies if you've been working for a month or more. It also sounds like possibly you might technically be made redundant rather than dismissed. But I'm pretty sure you don't have that many rights until you've worked for them for a month.
