I checked the dogs trust site and it mentioned there will be 3yrs or something of "training time" by defra ie they find a non chipped dog, then explain chipping to the owner. They will have responsible time to address the chip, then if they haven't they could face a £500 fine. After the "training period" i guess the fine would be an instant thing.

Personally chips are a good thing, helping reunite lost dogs and hopefully prosecuting welfare cases. It also said transfering info will be responsibility of the seller, just like selling a car, at least then info will be more correct. I hope.

Re: Microchipping law

my understanding is that every single dog needs to be chipped by that point and continuing on afterwards...

Re: Microchipping law

But the new law doesn't come into force until April 2016.
I think you and your boss are right. Here's the info on the government website:

https://www.gov.uk/pet-travel-information-for-pet-owners#microchips

(it is on the page about travelling pets, but nonetheless categorically says all dogs need to be chipped).

Re: Microchipping law

Hi,

There are currntly no guidelines on this - however, it looks like it is compulsory - with no exceptions. This means taht all dogs will be required to be microchipped. Northern Ireland is the only place to have this in the British Iles currently and they have a now exception rule.
