I appealed when I'd failed mine on not putting the clipper blade on correctly, if been a dog groomer for 5 years before I trained as vet nurse I'd made sure I knew how it was attached as was different in vet nursing to how I d been taught for dog grooming so made sure I'd asked many times at my practical revision days!! They failed me I know I'd attached them correctly! B I appealed but it was refused! !!

Its soo soo sooo important to tell the examiner everything your doing so they don't miss a thing.

And make sure when your cleaning your hands you dont turn your back to them (I made the mistake of doing this...opps).

The practicals are a complete farce!! I passed mine first time, think I got 10 out of 12 or something, but I failed the fluid therapy one saying there were bubbles in the line which I knew there wasnt! and the bandaging one which I was sure I had passed.

I think it is such a stressful situation to be put in! I am in Inverness and had to drive to Myerscough which is about 7 hours away!

At the end of the day its your word against theirs and its so frustrating when you know you have done them properly. Some of my examiners were really nice and put me at ease but some were horrible! and this just made me more nervous.

What ones did u fail in? I failed the subcut injection I got all steps but they said I drew up the wrong amount of drug however I remember the dose being something like 1.25 which is hard to draw up in a 2mk syringe to the exact point so I read the rcvs handbook and it says if u feel u have been given a poorly set question you can appeal so I am going to as I was always told you would get a whole figure number like 3mls or 2.5 also I passed all steps in my bandage however I was marked down on one being the examiner tension check which meant I failed. However I know I checked the tension and it was fine. I have also preciously passed 2 bandage tasks in the precious osces I done! It also says in handbook u can appeal a borderline fail which would deffo be us seeing as we got 100% in 7 tasks! Hope this helps u!

OMG! Same here! I got 7 passes of 100% then marked things saying I hadn't done them on some when I had! But we are not allowed to question the judgement of an rcvs examiner! They are only human and I'm sure mistakes happen. At the end of the day though its your word against theirs but I know I am in the right so I will appeal and if unsuccessful will take it further as I am not happy at all. It is just so frustrating as I feel cheated.

Oh really? I'm going to get letters from my clinical coach and practice principle it's my third attempt and they failed my bandage task on the last point which was examiner tension check even though I have passed my previous 2 bandaging tasks on the osces I sat before! So frustrated. Do you know how many the girl at your practice passed before she appealed?

I know a girl at my practice who appealed on her fourth attempt of her OSCES and she won her appeal. She had the backing of her clinical coach who contacted the RCVS.

I had my results yesterday too. I passed 7 osces with 100% pass mark on each one. Then 3 other tasks I got marked down on things I knew I had done. I am definitely going to appeal are you?

Sorry to hear that you didnt pass, it must be really frustrating.

I have heard of a few people on this forum who appealed unsucessfully but dont let that put you off - its worth a try.
