I'm currently vet nursing in New Zealand, and am hoping to move to the UK and was wondering what the restrictions are on this profession for someone foreign.
I have read that there are accreditation requirements but couldn't find anything that

Re: Working as a VN in the UK

I'm a VN from NZ and found the National Diploma is on the list of RCVS "Accepted" qualifications but the National Cert wasn't.

That may have changed as it's about 5 years since I became Registered?

Re: Working as a VN in the UK

Go to this website and you'll find all the information you need

http://www.rcvs.org.uk/document-library/overseas-application-pack-vn/

Many employers want RVN only so if you want to do this you will need to fill in the application form but you may find you need to do some extra training to get to RVN standard. Your experience should help with this, but its up to the RCVS.

However, some smaller employers may not be too fussed whether you are RVN or not and may employ you as a animal care assistant. You will not be able to do any schedule 3 procedures though.

I work with a NZ VN who applied for our RVN advertised job and got it, as she's only here for 2yrs she isn't going down the route of becoming a RVN. She carries out the same duties as the rest of us and as we don't do any schedule 3 she isn't restricted in her role.

I think if you want to locum or travel around a bit when you are over here it will be best to become registered as this will open up more job opportunities.

Ultimately it is up to you, have a look at that website and see what you think.

Good luck!
